Balkan Transport Tips

  • In general, it’s not a good idea to rely on bus times that you find online. Many of these sites are outdated or just wrong (www.getbybus.com and www.balkanviator.com and www.rome2rio.com and www.buscroatia.com consistently list incorrect times; www.busticket4.me tends to be correct, though it does not list all available lines). The only way to know for sure that a bus is running is to double-check with the bus station.
  • Buses in many countries – including Bosnia and Herzegovina – charge 1 EUR for baggage stored under the bus. This is usually paid to the driver when boarding. You’re not getting ripped off if this happens.
  • Any bus times listed on the Hostel Polako website are running to the best of our knowledge as of March 2017. However, it is not uncommon for buses throughout the Balkans to randomly not show up, or for entire lines to be cancelled spontaneously. Transportation can be a challenging adventure in the Balkans —
please plan to be flexible when creating your travel route!
